I recently visited the Redwoods in Northern California. It was a trip planned for my 40th birthday, something different from other birthdays before.
I wanted to marvel. To wander. To breathe fresh air and new possibilities as I rang in a new year, more than that, a new decade of my life. A new way of seeing.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a privildeged life and my 30s were the best decade yet, but so much changed and I wasn’t prepared for it all.
Not for a career change that now feels fated.
Not for being hurt by friends I once thought I’d have forever.
Not for learning how to run a successful business from nothing.
Not for how much the world changed.
Not for creating new worlds and meeting people from all over who share an enthusiasm for story. For magic. For love. For friendship.
So many thing I wasn’t prepared for, and I’m not delusional enough to think that in the next decade I’ll forsee the bumps in the road that will come. just like I might not see many great things.
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that the best things in life can be fleeting, and we need to grab them when we can. So, the Redwoods . . . they’re magic, there’s no denying it.
From the towering trees to the overgrown ferns that bring you into the Jurassic Age, there’s just something about this place that inspires imagination and self-care and rest. That’s a lot of what I did there, in a cute little town called Trinidad in an adorable inn called The Lost Whale with my husband.
Those towering trees helped reignite imagination and began a new world building in my head. Maybe one featuring Tarot since I picked up a new deck (linked here for those who are interested). Or maybe those forests will be incorporated into an upcoming kingdom of Isila!
We’ll have to see. For now, here are photos of the Redwoods. Enjoy!
